It is obvious to the onlooker that the vast Subaru community has plucked favorites from an overwhelming choice of iconic platforms and styles to follow with undying dedication over the decades. Everyone in this world has a preferred platform that is either loved for its performance potential, great lines and design aesthetic, or that one and only Subaru personality. Whether a diehard fan of one model over another, even the most dedicated enthusiast will always turn their head towards the true sports car silhouette as it crosses in front of a late day sunset. Within Subaru's collection of performers and stylish muscle, there is one model that has grown to become that unique showpiece and competitor in the arena. To many a purist, since its introduction in 2013, the Subaru BRZ has held a bright torch of being the carmaker's only true, visually inspired sports car platform. Launched as a co-development project with Toyota, the stylish BRZ became Subaru's first two-wheel drive vehicle to be sold in the US market by the company since 1996. Aerodynamic and agile, the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, 200 horsepower Boxer engine-built BRZ captured the eye of a particular driver attracted by sleek lines, low slung stance, dangerous expression, and the potential to become an underrated performer and unique breed within a fleet of recognizable body types and feature sets. Over the past decade the BRZ has experienced a collection of advancements and upgrades which keep it a popular model for both the Subaru brand lover and the sports car addict.
In a recent press release on December 16th, Subaru announced that the editors at the premiere automotive performance and lifestyle publication Car and Driver pinned the latest model Subaru BRZ with their "10Best Award" which now stands as the fifth consecutive honor for the model. To clarify the details behind the award, Subaru stated in the press release that, "The 10Best Cars of 2026 nominees consist of all-new vehicles, significantly updated vehicles, and 10Best winners from 2025. All must cost less than $115,000 in base configuration and be on sale no later than January 31, 2026. After a week of driving every new car that meets those criteria, the editors voted on a scale from zero to 100, discarded the high and low votes, and averaged the remaining scores to arrive at the 10Best Cars." Per Subaru's release, the new 2026 BRZ debuted with a brilliant “Sunrise Yellow” exterior and trim (a limited run of 350 units) and "powered by a 2.4-liter (naturally aspirated) 228-horsepower SUBARU BOXER® engine paired with a six-speed close-ratio manual transmission or a six-speed electronic direct-control automatic transmission." Jeff Walters, President and COO of Subaru of America was quoted in the press release saying, ""Being honored by the experts at Car and Driver for the fifth consecutive year is a tremendous distinction. Their recognition of the BRZ’s pure driving feel and outstanding value reflects the passion for performance and engineering excellence at Subaru”, he added. “A passion that continues with the BRZ Series.Yellow."
Earlier in the month of December 2025, Subaru announced the entrance of a new pony to its already impressive corral of popular all-wheel-drive SUV platforms, but this time their offering follows the all-electric recipe. The car maker's newest consumer provision promises a performer that can flex a considerable amount of power while delivering a wide range of options that meet the wants and needs of the overland community while tapping the satisfaction of any eco-watchers within that class. Per their December 4th press release, Subaru was proud to confirm that their newest showpiece will be more than a plug and play model launched just to feed popular demand and stay firm in the competitive electric vehicle marketplace, but will stand alone to level up their already iconic position in the off-road recreational community. This new model has a lot of technology and innovation buttoned down under its hood with the carmaker's team of engineers proudly sharing what has been on the drawing board since its days of development and what is in store from 2026 onward. Dubbed "the go-anywhere, rugged SUV", Subaru's newest innovation, the 2026 Subaru Trailseeker will join the EV marketplace in early 2026 alongside their new Solterra and Uncharted models while hopefully enticing a new group of converted drivers with a price tag figure a hairline under 40K MSRP.
Subaru's press announcement was a clear, visionary statement exclaiming that this, "all-new, all-electric" vehicle offers the consumer 375 horsepower with 0-60 mph acceleration in 4.4 seconds along with "spacious seating and cargo capacity." They added that the vehicle has, "approximately 280 miles of estimated range on a single charge with recharging at speeds up to 150 kW with standard NACS charge port." Subaru's tech team have tied the Trailseeker up with some impressive specifications, and, per the announcement promise that this platform will be both a top performer and endurance machine for the fleet. "Subaru engineers refined the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system found in the Trailseeker for improved performance thanks to its all-electric powertrain.", the announcement goes on to confirm. "Those changes include a variable torque split for the regenerative braking system and power distribution among the wheels, front to rear and left to right, for improved confidence while driving." Subaru also outlined that the Trailseeker provides, "8.3 inches of ground clearance and X-MODE® Dual-Mode System with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud Modes, Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control for off-road adventures." Rolling out of the showroom at 375 horsepower with their impressive acceleration specs, Subaru's announcement further punctuates that this vehicle will be "the quickest production Subaru model sold in the U.S."
