Our favorite carmaker ended 2024 on a very high note as they took in deep breaths of prosperity while celebrating continued record sales numbers from their popular Crosstrek, Forester, and Solterra platforms before the Christmas holiday rolled into town. As the calendar quickly clicks forward and keeps reminding us that time does truly fly as life goes on, Subaru keeps stacking up the honors and gathering praise as this whirlwind January 2025 has already come to the finish line. Per a recent press release launched to the public on January 29th, the carmaker was proud to announce that three of Subaru's newest models and enthusiast favorite platforms are being celebrated by one of the auto industries most respected publications, Car and Driver. President and Chief Operating Officer of Subaru of America, Inc., Jeff Walters, proudly illuminated his dedication to brand and platform by stating, "“This recognition proves Subaru’s dedication toward offering affordable vehicles across various segments, built to the highest standards from safety to performance, with the latest technology.” The announcement proudly stated that their newest overland icons, the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek , the 2025 Subaru Outback, and a performance-lovers favorite, the 2025 Subaru BRZ have all been honored with being included on Car and Driver's prestigious "Editors’ Choice List" under three individual category segments. “We are proud that the Subaru BRZ, Outback, and Crosstrek have been selected as top picks by the experts at Car and Driver," Walters added, "with all three models making the list for the second year in a row.”
After some time of already proving itself to be not only a fan favorite, but a gateway to converting the average driver to becoming a Subie faithful, the new Crosstrek was adorned as the pick in their "Compact SUV" category, which we all could have clearly predicted without doubt. In the announcement, Subaru said with pride, "Subaru’s best-selling SUV...was recognized by Car and Driver thanks to its updated exterior and interior designs, exceptional ride and handling, active safety features, and infotainment technology." The 2025 Outback commanded the slot under the "Station Wagon" segment, which prompted the carmaker to laud the platform by exclaiming, "The 2025 Outback earned its accolade for delivering its iconic composition of SUV capability and car-like ride and handling." Lastly, our favorite lightweight sports car, the 2025 Subaru BRZ grabbed the "Affordable Sports Car" category with all its unique charm and style shining brightly for its competition to see. Subaru's pride came out in full force in the release by confirming, "The 2025 BRZ was chosen by the editors for its classic sports car design, which includes a light weight, ultra-low center of gravity, precision steering, and agile handling in an affordable 2+2 package...its responsive 2.4-liter SUBARU BOXER® engine...produces 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque...with a manual transmission for sharper throttle response during spirited driving."
Car and Driver conducts a very detailed and strict set of exercises to determine who can jump on this lofty perch which includes an expert vehicle review where approximately 500 vehicle models in 45 market segments are thoroughly tested, carefully rated, and ultimately specifically ranked to confirm that they have fully met the requirements. The publication has a reputation for conducting rigorous instrumented testing along with including the careful evaluations of experienced reviewers to determine vehicle performance and how it uses its engineering and design to reach the goals they have set. The magazine confidently clearly sets themselves apart from all others when selecting vehicles to appear on this list by proclaiming with earned authority, "“The Editor’s Choice award lets consumers quickly cut through the confusion of the new-car market to help them focus on the vehicles they should seriously consider buying. Think of Editor’s Choice as the honor roll of the new-car world,” as quoted in the press release. As Subaru moves through the first month of 2025 with heads held high, its reputation has been polished further by these earned and well-deserved accolades. With over 70 years covering the automotive world, and, as the announcement states, an online readership of 15 million unique visitors per month, Car and Driver has clearly punctuated Subaru's commitment to quality through these awards.
